About The Sustainable Life Learning Center

Hello again. My name is Suzanne Jones. I currently live in the seaport town of Port Townsend,Washington. Because I grew up in the era of concern for the environment, I have alway planted a small garden, recycled plastic, bought food from bulk bins, and driven small cars. But after I lost my home to a wildfire in the Southern California mountains, I got really serious about living my life in ways that can sustain and rejuvenate the planet.

Over the years, I have come up with several ideas and learned several new skills that help me toward my goal to contribute to the planet and my community. The pages of this site share these ideas, in some detail. I hope you enjoy reading through these pages and maybe putting some of the ideas into practice in your home and community.

I am an artist, musician, and teacher of Compassionate Communication. I have a master’s degree in communication studies including relational, political, nonverbal, educational and business communication, as well as conflict resolution. I wrote my thesis on the topic of partnership education, doing research at the elementary and university level on how egalitarian (rather than hierarchical) communication between teachers and students could create effective classroom environments and greater academic and emotional learning for students of all ages.
